After falling in their first two games of the season, the Lady Warhawks have won three straight after defeating Kingston, Dixon and Bismarck.
Bourbon scored at least 17 runs in all three wins and ended each game after three innings due to the run rule. The Lady Hawks are now 3-2 on the season and seem to be hitting their stride under head coach Randy Payne and assistant coach Lindsay Gobin. Bourbon’s scheduled game on April 1 in Hillsboro was canceled due to the inclement weather and it’s TBD if that game will be rescheduled.
The Lady Warhawks will host their next four games, starting with a matchup against Plato on April 6, followed by Steelville on April 9, Kingston on April 10 and Dixon on April 13 before playing the following evening in Bismarck.
9-run first March 30 at Dixon
Bourbon began its week traveling to Dixon to take on the Lady Bulldogs in their season opener. Coming off a one-sided road win against Kingston, the Lady Warhawks once again came off the bus ready to put runs across home plate. Bourbon quickly spoiled Dixon’s first game of the year, jumping on Dixon starting pitcher Addyson Vineyard for nine runs in the first inning, five in the second and seven in the third to come away with a dominant 21-0 run rule victory in three innings.
Bourbon senior pitcher Annalise Gobin gave up just one hit in three scoreless innings from the circle, and added three base hits, three runs batted in, two stolen bases and four runs scored at the plate. Gobin was one of six Lady Warhawks to record multiple basehits. Sophomore Lauryn Hercules and junior Hailie Kahmke each collected three base hits and knocked in a run. Hercules also scored four times and stole a base and Kahmke crossed the plate three times.
Sophomore Ella Biles and freshman Savanna Vance both added two base hits, three runs batted and two runs scored and sophomore Kinzey Waldron collected two hits, two runs batted in and scored three times. Biles also stole two bases and Kahmke and freshman Brynn Miller swiped one. Freshman Brianna Bouse walked, singled, drove in a run and scored twice to round out Bourbon’s offensive productivity. Freshman Audrey Bradbury collected Dixon’s lone hit of the game.
13-run second March 31 hosting Bismarck
The Lady Warhawks returned home and took on the Bismarck Lady Indians the following afternoon. Both teams scored two runs in the first inning before Bourbon seized control of the game. After Gobin pitched a scoreless inning in the top of the second. The Lady Warhawks exploded for 13 runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a 15-2 lead. Gobin hurled another scoreless frame in the third and Bourbon added two more runs at the plate to make it 17-2, ending the game after three innings on the run rule.
Gobin finished with six strikeouts on the mound and didn’t make an out at the plate. Gobin walked three times, drove in a run and scored three times. Hercules, Waldron and Savanna Vance each collected two hits and drove in multiple runs. Biles drove in a team-high four runs and scored twice, Maddie Blanton knocked in three runs and scored once, Brynn Miller drove in a run and Bouse walked twice and scored three times. Bismarck sophomores Grace Randazzo and Ayla Hawkins each reached base twice and scored for the Lady Indians.
