Bourbon’s Lady Warhawks basketball team won a pair of games on Jan. 20 and Jan. 22 in Kingston and against Rolla Sr. High School home school, respectively.
The Lady Warhawks (10-7) won both games by over 25 points and have won four-straight games as of Jan. 26. Bourbon’s lone senior, point guard Kaitlin King was honored before the game against Rolla Sr.
King, the daughter of Doug and Brandie King, is the engine that has been driving the Lady Hawks’ turnaround season that has amounted to 10 wins so far, which already easily surpasses last year’s total of seven wins, with seven games still remaining in the regular season.
Bourbon was scheduled to play in Steelville on Jan. 27, which will be detailed in next week’s edition. The Lady Hawks will then play the rest of their regular season schedule at home, beginning on Jan. 29 against Grandview (Hillsboro) followed by a Feb. 2 matchup against Chamois.
Dec. 20 vs. Kingston
After having a week off from their last game, the Lady Warhawks didn’t show any rust on the road in Kingston.
Bourbon led 15-7 after the first quarter before taking control in the second frame. The Lady Warhawks poured in 19 in the second quarter and gave up just four to take a commanding 34-11 lead into halftime. The Lady Hawks continued to score efficiently in the third frame and netted 14 to lead 48-20 going to the fourth. With a continuously running clock, Bourbon coasted to a 54-27 win and were able to enjoy the long, winding bus ride back home. The Lady Warhawks’ win was their third in a row and ninth on the season
All seven of Bourbon’s players scored points and three Lady Warhawks reached double figures. Kinzey Waldron knocked down a trio of treys and finished with a game-high 14 points. Savanna Vance scored 13 points on a pair of three-pointers, three baskets near the rim and a free throw. Kinzii Withorn netted 12 points on a three-ball, four baskets at the rim and a free throw. Reese Bell added five, Kaitlin King chipped in four, Ella Biles added three, Bree Bouse scored two and Hayden Terry knocked down a free throw to finish with one.
Dec. 22 vs. Rolla Sr. High School Home School
The Lady Warhawks honored its lone senior, Kaitlyn King, before tipoff, and the good feelings continued once the game began.
Thanks to balanced attack, Bourbon led from the get go, and took a 15-6 lead after the first quarter. The second frame was closer, but the Lady Hawks still led 25-13 at halftime. Bourbon’s defense swarmed in the third quarter and didn’t give up a point, as the Lady Hawks’ lead grew to 21 points. Devon Payne’s bunch stayed in rhythm in the final frame, and outscored Rolla Sr. by six points to cruise to the final buzzer with a 46-19 victory.
Bourbon received just one double-figure scoring effort, but had four players score at least eight points. Kinzey Waldon led the Lady Hawks with 13 points on a three-pointer and five baskets from close range. Savanna Vance added nine points and Kinzii Withorn and Hayden Terry scored eight points apiece. Reese Bell chipped in five, King added four and Ella Biles knocked down a free throw to finish with one point. King didn’t try to fill up the scoresheet on senior night, and unselfishly got her teammates involved as she led the Lady Hawks in assists.
