Lana Raye (nee Cape) Haffer of Cuba, Missouri, formerly of Steelville, Missouri, was born June 7, 1946 in Washington, Missouri and passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2026 at the age of 80 years, 1 month and 7 days.

She grew up in Steelville, Missouri and graduated from Steelville High School with the Class of 1964.

As a young woman, she and her twin sister, Jana, shared a love of horses and started the Cape Twins Riding Stable, the first riding stable in the area. She had a special love for horses, goats, and dogs, and she never shied away from hard work.

Lana was baptized in 1981 by Rev. Delmar Hutson in the river near Brown's Canoe Rental while attending Center Point Baptist Church, and later became a member of First Baptist Church in Steelville.

She married Jim Haffer on June 3, 1967 at Steelville Presbyterian Church in a double wedding with her twin sister, Jana, and Darryl.

She worked as a teacher's aide at Steelville Schools.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gerald and Eileen Cape; father-in-law, Raymond (Marie) Haffer; mother-in-law, Dorothy (Raymond) Matchell; four biological brothers and one biological sister that she found later in life.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, James Haffer of Cuba, Missouri; children, Tracey (Jeff) Keeven of Steelville, Missouri and Blake (Andrea) Haffer of Boss, Missouri; grandchildren, Jessy (Justin) Strong, Bailey (Houston) Webster, Brittany Iles, Bethany (Rider) Kiesner, Liberty (Jason) Payne and Mae Haffer; great grandchildren Jaden and Jasper Strong and Dixie Payne; twin sister, Jana (Darryl) Earhart of Steelville, Missouri; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Bob (Janet) Haffer of Sullivan, Missouri, Ray (Joan) Haffer of St. Ann, Missouri and Mary (Charles) Turner of Farmington, Missouri; special friend, Suzie Darrough of Orange Beach, Alabama; three biological brothers found later in life; other relatives and friends.

Visitation was held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, July 17, 2026 at Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri.

Funeral service was held at 1 p.m. on Friday, July 17, 2026 at Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri with Pastor Rick Haggett officiating. 

Burial at Hibler Cemetery in Steelville, Missouri.
