The final Rocking to the Rocker will start at 9 a.m. on April 18, marking 18 years of the event.
Rocking to the Rocker, which started in 2008, was originally named Race to the Rocker. In 2019, the name changed to Running the Rails, and in 2024, the final name change was made to Rocking to the Rocker.
It is a four-mile race starting in front of the U.S. Postal Service in Cuba to the Route 66 Rocker in Fanning.
There are over 200 participants already signed up over a wide range of ages. All runners and walkers are welcome. Jogging strollers are allowed, but no animals or bicycles.
There is a meet-up before the race begins at the Mizell Funeral Home, where participant can pick up their event shirt, which has all the race sponsors listed. There will also be coffee.
Music is played by the Cuba High School Band, and they play the national anthem before the race starts.
With numbers decreasing over the past years, the event organizers have decided that this will be the last year for the race, even pushing back the regular start date from sometime in late March, hoping for warmer weather.
There are medals for those who place in the top three, and a pair of sunglasses is given out to participants at the end of the race.
