James Memorial Public Library’s annual Spring Book Sale is back from May 7-9, offering the community a way to purchase new and used books at affordable prices.
The sale will open with a $5 early bird entry on Thursday from 8 to 9 a.m. for those looking to get first choice on books. Regular sale hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday.
Saturday will be the $2 bag sale, where shoppers can fill a bag for the low price.
The book sale is sponsored by Friends of the Library and is always a big deal for JMPL. All proceeds go back to enriching the library, supporting programs and providing resources to patrons.
Friends of the Library held a book sale throughout April to collect donations from the community. Books for sale are new or lightly used. Many are books that the library is taking out of its circulation due to slight wear and tear or to free up space. This gives the library a chance to update its collection and patrons a chance to stock up on new reading material for reasonable prices.
The sale will offer books of all genres in the Betty Lu Hughes room, including romance, mystery, religion, history, fiction, non-fiction and more. A plethora of children’s books will be for sale in the front part of the building.
Hundreds of hardback and paperback books are available, as well as other media such as CDs, DVDs, VHS tapes and magazines. The sale is cash only.
Adult hardbacks will be $1 and adult paperbacks will be 50 cents. Children’s picture books will be 50 cents for hardbacks and 25 cents for paperbacks. Children’s chapter books, graphic novels and young adult novels will be 50 cents.
Premium books will be $3 for hardback and $1.50 for paperback. Media (DVDs, CDs, VHS tapes) will be 50 cents and magazines will be 25 cents.
Library staff and board members are looking forward to seeing the community come out to the sale in support of the library. For more information, contact the library at 573-265-7211.
