The Steelville High School volleyball team’s season ended on Oct. 24 in the Class 2 District 8 finals, but multiple Lady Cardinals have been recognized by the district’s coaches for their performance on the court throughout the season.
Juniors Kylee Livesay and Emeri Perkins were both named first team all-district for their standout efforts for their team that won 15 matches.
Livesay led the team in serving aces with 99, which was good for 14th in the state. Livesay also led the team in aces per set with 1.1 and in assists with 332, consistently setting her teammates up for success.
Perkins, a dual sport fall athlete as a cross country runner as well, led the Lady Cardinals in kills, kills per set, and hitting percentage with 236, 2.8 and 0.177, respectively as the anchor of the front line.
Seniors Aaleigha Decker and Marley Eilert, junior Jazmyn Hurd and sophomore Kaylin Gillam were all named second team all district. Hurd led the team in digs, digs per set and receptions with 285, 3.3 and 388, respectively, while Eilert led Steelville in blocks with 29.
The Lady Cardinals’ strong junior class that also includes GracieMae Boone, Sylvia Davis, Maggie Bunch, Hannah Turnbough and Emma Garrison will return for their senior season with high expectations after helping the team reach the district finals and win six more matches than the previous year.
