Making memories at Maramec Spring Park Trunk or Treat

St. James – Maramec Spring Park hosted its 5th Annual Trunk or Treat on Oct. 25 at the campground, and by all accounts was a smashing success.

“Campers look forward to it every year and decorate their campsite for the kids, but probably more for the adults because the kids just want the candy,” said Wesley Swee, James Foundation director and a co-sponsor of the event.

An estimated 750 kids were predicted to turn out for the event, with many getting in line an hour ahead time. The theme for 2025 was Harry Potter and an extra 28 campsites were added this year to encourage kids to explore. A variety of kids costumes included angels, cheerleaders and dragons. Some adults got in on the fun by dressing up as Snoopy and other characters.

“Making memories is our goal at Maramec Spring” Swee said. “Our venue is perfectly set up to become a core (meet up) for the youth that will one day bring their kids and continue the tradition.  That is our number one method that brings them to the park. Tradition, family trips, friend and word of mouth.”

The concept of the event started with Kendra Swee, interpretive services coordinator.

“Halloween is her favorite holiday and (she) loves to decorate for the holiday and see all the creative costumes the kids come up with,” Wesley Swee noted.

In addition to getting into the Halloween spirit by planning, more than 32 additional booths signed up which allowed “for a good haul of candy for the kiddos.”

“Getting out into the community is something we love to do as a chapter. Seeing these kids in such a fun environment truly inspires us to keep going,” said Dakota Sidwell, St. James FFA chapter secretary.
