The Steelville City Council on Sept. 22 approved with a 4-0 vote to renew its membership with the Meramec Regional Planning Commission (MRPC).
MPRC is an organization that helps with grants for smaller municipalities, and has been working with a group to update the Steelville Community Building. The city and MRPC share fiscal responsibility for writing grants for the community building. Mayor Terry Beckham paid $1,614 for an enhanced membership in 2026 with the MRPC. The enhanced membership will give the city 21 hours of basic consulting for non-grant-related services. The agreement Beckham signed is expected to become public record on Oct. 6, at the next city council meeting.
In other business, the council nominated Alderman Curtis Crouch to be part of a risk management interview team tasked with looking for a broker consultant who will review risk management services for the city.
The team will consist of Police Chief Mike Sherman, Public Works and Building Director Jason Evans, and will be coordinated by Interim Comptroller Steffanie Rogers.
