Two members of the St. James High School boys’ cross country team have advanced to the 77th Missouri Cross Country Championships through their performance at the Class 3 District 3 Meet, held Saturday, Nov. 1 in Linn.
Sophomore Ashton Moreland and freshman Kylar Hodge will represent the Tigers at the Missouri Class 3 State Meet. The top four teams and 30 individuals advanced from the district meet to state competition.
Moreland finished third individually in the 5,000-meter District 3 race with a time of 17:08.10. Hodge was 20th overall at 18:04.20. The boys’ medalist was Centralia’s Nolan Spickert, who ran 16:14.00.
The Class 3 State Meet will be held Friday, Nov. 7 at the Gans Creek Course in Columbia.
Westminster Christian was the boys’ District 3 team champion with 46 points while Centralia was runner-up with 55. St. James placed eighth with 233.
Just missing state qualification for the Tigers was senior Johnny Perkins, who finished 31st at 18:43.50.
In the girls’ district race St. Charles West was team champion with 47 points. St. James had two runners in the field, with Adayne Hash finishing 40th and Katherine Strackeljahn 43rd.
