New city of Cuba website almost complete

Posted

Since the old city of Cuba website is not very user-friendly and is hard to navigate, the Board of Aldermen and mayor had approved making a new website in July 2025, and it’s almost done.

David Minardi, with the treatment plant, gave a report on where its completion stands.

“The site is all but done,” Minardi said. “Like the layout’s there. Jessica and I have both reviewed it. You know, it’s user-friendly, everything’s easy to look at and find all (the) information you want.”

Minardi switched the conversation to propane bids.

When the temperatures get below 20-25 degrees, Minardi has to burn a torch to unfreeze the two 100-pound propane cylinders, but can’t conserve the propane well because the wind blows out the torch if it is run too low. With a 5-0 vote, the board approved Minardi’s request to go out for bids for a 200-gallon propane tank so he doesn’t have to worry about it going out.

Then he talked about a UV system bid. It was decided to fix the one they already have for now, so a motion was approved to use the treatment plant’s budget to cover the $31,708 for parts with a 5-0 vote.

Cierra Kitchen, with the Crawford County Football League, discussed her displeasure with the contract for the use of Hood Park because it incorrectly contained the name of a program that lost its nonprofit organization status in 2011, the contract nearly being identical to a 2007 agreement, but with current dates.

While a newly corrected contract was given to the league, Kitchen questioned how soon the contract can be signed as well as when the locks could be changed with new keys issued.

Emergency Operations Center (EOC) director Greg Hubbell gave a warming shelter update.

“We were open, 24 hours a day, from Jan. 22 till Feb. 1,” Hubbell said.

They had a total of 130 people stay overnight in that time frame with a majority of them being all new faces. Within those 11 days, they were also able to serve approximately 600 meals.

Karina Rice was appointed to the Cuba Parks and Recs Board with a 3-2 vote. Her term ends May 1, 2028, and she will have to be reappointed or step down. Bouse and Alderman Ward 2 Pitts Lesesne voted against the appointment.

For the Bicycles Across Missouri Route 66 100th Anniversary event, they usually do a $5,000 sponsorship. The board approved this sponsorship with a 5-0 vote.

Bill No. 2207, an ordinance to approve a bid by Brown’s Tree and Bucket service for tree trimming in the powerlines off Park Street, became Ordinance No. 956 and was passed with a 5-0 vote.
