Nina Jean Usery

Nina Jean (nee Dishman) Usery of Cuba, Missouri was born on June 14, 1933 in Buskirk Kentucky and passed away on January 1, 2026 at the age of 92 years.

She grew up in West By God, Virginia before moving to Oviedo, Florida in the mid-1940s.

Early in her life Nina accepted Christ as her Savior and was a member of the Delhi Baptist Church.

As a teenager, she was involved in cheerleading and basketball.

She married William “Bill” Usery  on April 4, 1954.

She enjoyed shopping, especially for shoes and purses, and was always up for a girls’ trip with her daughters. She liked sitting on the porch, catching up on family news and reading. She often clipped articles and wrote down quotations that she wanted to remember, and these little slips of paper could be found tucked into books, slipped into picture frames, and hung on the refrigerator.

She was preceded in death by her husband Bill; parents, “Charlie” and Isabel Dishman; sister, Georgia Malcom Lee and husband Kenneth Malcolm; brothers Ott Dishman and wife Edith and Jimmy Dishman (died in infancy); brother-in-law, Don and wife Catherine Usery; sisters-in-law, Georgia Baggett and Delores Moody; and grandson, Aaron Kurtz.

She is survived by five children, Katie Kell of Fulton, Missouri, Nancy Hoyle (John) of Tucson, Arizona, Connie McPherson (Tom) of Cuba, Missouri, Tom Usery of Sullivan, Missouri and Tim Usery (Dianna Coleman) of Sullivan, Missouri; grandchildren, Lori Meyers, Jason Kurtz, Kevin Sitzes, Casey Kingsley, Amy McPherson (Carlos Madrid), Kelly Williamson (Dean), Molly McPherson, Christopher Usery (Kimberly) and Heather Usery; 12 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Visitation was held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 5, 2026 at Mizell Funeral Home & Crematory in Cuba, Missouri.

Funeral service was held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 5, 2026 at Mizell Funeral Home & Crematory in Cuba, Missouri with Pastor Joe Bruno officiating.

Interment followed at Kinder Cemetery in Cuba, Missouri.
