Steelville High School’s cross country team put on an exemplary performance on Oct. 21 at the Gasconade Valley Conference Meet at Steelville City Park.
The girls varsity team began the meet with the 5000 meter race and freshman Adalei Perkins came in first place with a 22:58.62 time. She wasn’t the only Lady Cardinal to medal. Kendall Brinkley came in third with a personal record time of 23:15.7, Lydia Smelser took fourth with a season best 23:38.2 time and Elisabeth Warden finished sixth at 24:08.6 to round out the medalist performers. Emeri Perkins took 10th with a 27:19.5 time and Stormee Yates ran a personal best 28:41.95 time to finish 13th to cap off a first place team finish for the Lady Cardinals.
Steelville’s boys varsity team came in second place as a team in the 5000 meter race, and had multiple standout performances led by Landon and Owen Rutledge. Landon ran a personal record 16:57.30 time to take first place and win his third race of the year. Owen also ran a personal record time of 18:15.50 and took second. Freshman Lucas Garms was the next Cardinal to finish and took ninth with a personal record 21:37.9 time. Fellow freshman Jacoby Eaton also ran a personal best time of 23:21.70 and took 13th. Max Harmon took 14th with a 23:49.4 time, Wesley Keymann finished in 18th with a 25:41.9 time and Aiden Retkowski took 21st with a personal record 33:01.03 time.
The Cardinals will compete next on Nov. 1 at Districts in Linn.
