Ronnie Lee Nelson Sr. of Cuba, Missouri was born on Sept. 7, 1954 in Denver, Colorado to Paul Nelson Sr. and Irma "Jean" Crews and passed away, Tuesday, August 11, 2026 at the age of 71 years.
He married Darlene Spurgeon on Dec. 14, 1985 at the Cuba Presbyterian Church in Cuba, Missouri.
Ron was a self-employed contractor for many years.
He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying many hobbies such as hunting, fishing and gigging. Ron was known to be a "grill master” and enjoyed hosting fish fries.
He was a talented woodworker and liked to go camping, four-wheeling and boat riding. He also enjoyed watching and feeding the birds and tending to his garden. Ron was a big NASCAR fan.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Irma "Jean" Nelson; and father-in-law, Eugene Spurgeon.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Darlene Nelson of Cuba, Missouri; children, Ronnie Nelson Jr. of Cuba, Missouri, Angie (Kyle) Treadwell of New Mexico, Ryan Nelson of Springfield, Missouri and Alex Nelson of Cuba, Missouri; half-brother, Paul Nelson Jr. of Maryland; father, Paul Nelson Sr. of Leasburg, Missouri; mother-in-law, Ruth Spurgeon of Cuba, Missouri; siblings-in-law, Donna Perry of Nixa, Missouri, Diane Spurgeon of Cuba, Missouri, Debbie (Jason) Anderson of Farmington, Missouri, David Spurgeon of Cuba, Missouri and Mark (Randi) Spurgeon of Cuba, Missouri; grandchildren, Tyler Nelson, Kloe Nelson, Kyan Nelson, Banx Treadwell and Bentley Treadwell; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, August 21, 2026 at Mizell Funeral Home & Crematory in Cuba, Missouri.
Funeral service was held at 1 p.m. on Friday, August 21, 2026 at Mizell Funeral Home & Crematory in Cuba, Missouri.
Burial followed at Bowen Cemetery in Bland, Missouri.
