Six members of the St. James High School boys’ and girls’ basketball teams were selected to the Missouri Media Central All-District Team, it was announced this week.
Three players from each of the Lady Tigers and St. James boys’ squads were named to the media Class 4 All-District squad.
Selected from the St. James boys’ squad were 5-11 senior guard Tate Gruver and 5-10 sophomore guard Isaac Smith to the first team and 6-0 senior guard Aiden Boone to the second team.
From the Lady Tigers 5-7 junior guard Payge Kemnitzer was named to the first team and 5-6 senior guard Avery Campbell and 5-6 junior guard Adalee Richardson to the second team.
Gruver set the St. James career scoring record. He average 16.3 points, 2.2 assists, 2.1 steals, 3.7 rebounds while shooting 51% from the field and made 64 three-pointers at a 42% clip.
Smith averaged 10.4 points, 5.8 assists, 3.9 steals, 2.3 rebounds, shot 47% from the field and made 37 threes. He set single-season and single-game school records for both assists and steals.
Boone was named Four Rivers Conference Defensive Player of the Year. He averaged 11.0 points, 3.1 assists, 1.9 steals and 3.5 rebounds while shooting 56% from the field and made 35 three-pointers.
The Tiger boys finished 21-8, and won the District 3 Tournament championship before being eliminated in the sectionals by eventual Class 4 runner-up Clayton.
Kemnitzer averaged 12.6 points, 2.3 assists, 2.2 steals and 4.3 rebounds while making 83 three-pointers at a 34% clip. She was the Four Rivers Conference Player of the Year.
Campbell averaged 6.5 points, 3.0 assists, 2.0 steals and 3.6 rebounds while making 28 threes.
Richardson scored at a 8.2 point clip while averaging 2.8 steals, 2.4 rebounds and made 32 threes.
The Lady Tigers were 17-11 was undefeated FRC championships and won their fifth consecutive district championship by claiming the District 3 Tournament title before losing to St. Francis Borgia in sectionals. The St. James girls allowed an average of just 36.2 points per game.
