Smith named Senior Companion

Joyce Smith of Rolla, Missouri was selected Senior Companion of the Month for September 2025. Smith has been a Senior Companion since August 2013.

As an avid outdoors enthusiast, she spent countless hours trail riding in the majestic Rocky Mountains along with family and friends.  She has participated in various outdoor activities, including camping, horseback riding, and attending rodeos spanning from Colorado to Wyoming. 

“In the mountains the air would be so thin you could hardly breathe,” she recalls highlighting her adventurous spirit and love of nature.

Beyond her personal interests, she dedicates her time to numerous volunteer efforts.  She has actively participated in church missions and served at the St. James caring center where her contributions make a significant impact on those in need.  Additionally, Smith is a proud member of the PCRMC Silver Eagles, a program designed for individuals aged 50 and older, focused on educating the community about healthy living and nutrition.

In recognition of her outstanding service, she received a beautiful floral arrangement donated by Blossom Basket Florist and a $10.00 gift card from Sink’s Pharmacy. 

The Senior Companion Program by Americorps Seniors, which has played a vital role in fostering community connections and volunteerism, is sponsored by the Phelps Commission.  It is funded through a grant from the Corporation for National and Community Service along with the support of various local groups and individuals.
