Filing opens on Dec. 9 and closes on Dec. 30 for the April 2026 municipal elections. Entities with open seats in St. James include five aldermen positions with varied terms, two positions on the ambulance board of directors and two positions on the St. James Fire Protection District.
On the St. James City Council, one seat is open for Ward 1 with a two-year term, currently held by Tyler Wagnon. In Ward 2, a two-year term is currently held by Mark Gray. Ward 3 has a seat with a two-year term held by Isaiah Wills. Two seats will be open for Ward 4, one for a two-year term and a one-year term.
Steve Hutchcraft is the current Ward 4 representative, seated in the unfulfilled one-year term. There has been an open council seat for a few months because of Scott Coleman’s resignation from the second Ward 4 position for a two-year term.
Declarations for candidacy will be accepted from 8 a.m. on Dec. 9 through 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 30 at City Hall, 100 Jefferson St, St. James.
The St. James Ambulance Board of Directors will also be accepting candidate filings. Two positions are available, each with a three-year term. Seats are currently held by Tammy Yamnitz for sub-district No. 3 and Jennifer Rabenau for sub-district No. 6, both of whom plan to run for re-election.
Interested individuals may obtain more information about the election process by visiting on Mondays from 1 to 4 pm. At the St. James Ambulance base.
Candidate applications for the board will be accepted from Dec. 8 through Dec. 22.
Two board of directors for the St. James Fire Protection District of Phelps County seats will be open in the upcoming April election. Board directors serve a six-year term and must be a voter of the district for at least one year before the election.
Candidates must be over the age of 25.
Declarations of candidacy can be filed at 903 N. Jefferson St, St. James. There will be a $10 fee, and filing a statement under oath that such person possesses the required qualifications. Headquarters will be open for filing from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Dec. 9 through Dec. 30.
