A St. James man was arrested on Oct. 22 and charged with one allegation of drug trafficking.
John Brock, 44, of St. James, was charged with one count of trafficking drugs, class B felony. His surety bond was set for $100,000 with special conditions. According to the warrant issued on Oct. 23, special conditions include that if the defendant is charged with additional felony or misdemeanors involving violence, weapons or abuse of drugs and alcohol — and is a concealed carry permit holder — he shall surrender his permit to the serving officer to be forwarded with the return of the warrant to the court.
Brock was in court on Oct. 24 for a bond review hearing, but was denied. He was also given an application for a public defender.
He is due back in court at 10:30 a.m. on Nov. 4 for a bond review.
According to the probable cause statement, the St. James Police Department was dispatched at 7:10 p.m. on Oct. 23 to Casey’s General Store where a man was reportedly trying to sleep while standing. The patrolman observed Brock swaying and leaning over at the waist. When the officer made contact with Brock and asked if he needed medical treatment, he declined and attempted to leave. However, the patrolman told Brock he was not free to go because he was trespassing on Casey’s property.
The patrolman asked Brock if he possessed any illegal substances on his person, to which he responded that he had pills that were later identified as five fentanyl capsules weighing approximately .03 grams. The patrolman noted .03 grams is more than the 10 milligrams statutorily allowed.
The patrolman read Brock his Miranda Rights and placed him under arrest.
