A St. James man died in an early morning car crash on July 29 in Maries County.
According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, at approximately 6:40 a.m. a Ford F-350 driven by an 18-year-old male from Owensville was headed westbound on Highway 28 when his vehicle crossed the center of the roadway into the path of an eastbound Chrysler Pacifica driven by a 25-year-old St. James man.
According to the report, the F-350 struck the Pacifica head-on, and both vehicles traveled off the right side of the roadway. The St. James man was pronounced dead at the scene by Maries Deputy Coroner Amanda Sandbothe and transported to the Birmingham Martin Funeral Home in Vienna. The Owensville man suffered moderate injuries and was transported by ambulance to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital - Jefferson City.
According to the crash report, the fatal incident on Highway 28 was Missouri State Highway Patrol’s seventh fatality for the month of July, and the 20th fatality in 2026.
