St. James resident Linda Wischow has been honored as the Senior Companion of the Month for October 2025. Originally from Quincy, Illinois, she grew up with two sisters and is the mother of two daughters. She has two granddaughters and two grandsons.
Wischow's travels include a visit to the Philippines and five trips to Hawaii.
Professionally, she has experience working at Fort Leonard Wood with military police and the FBI in a customer service capacity, where she was responsible for conducting background checks on computers and cell phones.
Deeply involved in her community, she serves as a deputy registration clerk for Phelps County, where she plays a pivotal role in helping residents register to vote. Additionally, she held the position of President and DJ for the senior dance at St. James High School in 2008. In 2019, she ran for a seat on the St. James School Board. She also sells Avon products.
“I love meeting new people and helping where I can,” she shared. “That is why I appreciate being a Senior Companion. It allows me to make a positive impact in my community, which is very important to me.”
As a token of appreciation for her dedication, she received a floral arrangement donated by Blossom Basket Florist and a $10 gift certificate from Sink’s Pharmacy.
The Senior Companion Program by AmeriCorps Seniors, which has played a vital role in fostering community connections and volunteerism, is sponsored by the Phelps Commission. It is funded through a grant from the Corporation for National and Community Service along with the support of various local groups and individuals.
