Jacob Fricke, Kindergarten Special Education Teacher at Lucy Wortham James Elementary, has been named the St. James R-1 School District’s 2025-26 Teacher of the Year.
“Mr. Fricke brings a level of care, creativity, and intentionality that makes a lasting impact on our youngest learners,” said Superintendent Tim Webster. “In his first year, he created something special with Lucy’s Stripes and Sweets, giving students real opportunities to connect, contribute, and feel a true sense of belonging. That kind of impact goes far beyond the classroom.”
Fricke developed Lucy’s Stripes and Sweets, a student-led program where LWJE staff place weekly orders and students take the lead in managing, preparing, and delivering them. What started as a simple idea quickly turned into a meaningful experience that built confidence, responsibility, and connection across the building.
“Teaching, to me, means creating a place where every child feels seen, valued, and excited to learn,” Fricke said. “When students enjoy school, they believe in themselves.”
