Ending last week with a victory, the St. James High baseball squad whipped Hermann 9-1 Friday, May 1 in Four Rivers Conference action at Nelson Hart Park.
Thursday, April 30 St. James lost at Union 10-0.
The Tigers entered this week with a 2-15 overall record and ended FRC play at 1-6.
This week St. James was to play three games at home, against Waynesville Monday, Stoutland Tuesday and Linn Thursday (5 p.m. start).
May 1 - STJ 9, Hermann 1: St. James snapped a losing skid behind a strong pitching and offensive attack. St. James took the lead for good with two runs in the bottom of the first inning. After Hermann got a run back in the top of the third, the Tigers tallied a run in the third, four in the fifth and two in the sixth.
The Tigers outhit the Hermann Bearcats 7-4 and took advantage of six Hermann fielding errors.
Senior JV Meurer belted a two-run home run while junior Hunter Freeman had a double and scored a run; senior Trevor Mitchell two hits and an RBI; senior Cooper Schacht a hit, RBI and scored three times; senior Eugene Lefebvre and sophomore Aiden Cruz each had a hit; senior Max Wilson had an RBI, and freshman Jaden Otto and sophomore Patrick Lonning each scored a run.
Mitchell went the distance on the mound, allowing no earned runs on four hits and two walks over seven innings while fanning seven.
Hermann won the junior varsity game 10-2.
April 30 - Union 10, STJ 0: Union senior pitcher Tucker Lemons threw a no-hitter at St. James, allowing no hits and no walks while striking out seven.
Union got a run in the bottom of the second inning, four runs in each of the third and fourth frames and one more in the fifth. The game was stopped after five innings due to the run rule.
Meurer worked three innings, allowing four earned runs, while Cruz finished up allowing one earned run.
Union won the junior varsity game 7-1.
