St. James voters went to the polls during the April 7 Municipal Election to determine leadership for the city and schools. Races for a Ward 2 alderman, three seats on the school board and two seats on the Fire Protection District were decided.
The only contested city race was for the Ward 2 alderman seat. Incumbent Mark Gray, who has served for six years, faced challenger Keith Livingstone for the two-year term. Gray received 58 votes, while Livingstone received 26 votes, resulting in Gray retaining the seat.
Several candidates ran unopposed for city positions. Ward 1 Alderwoman Tyler Wagnon and Ward 4 Alderman Stephen Hutchcraft were reelected to serve two year terms with 39 and 52 votes, respectively. Margaret Kirgan Roberts was elected to serve for two years in Ward 3 with 41 votes. Marcie Wilson was elected to the one-year Ward 4 term with 48 votes.
For the St. James R-1 Board of Education, three seats were up for election with five candidates in the race. Incumbents Melanie Davis and Wes Gahr sought reelection alongside Kendra Swee, Jessica Roy and Linda Wischow.
The three candidates elected to the board were Gahr with 486 votes, Davis with 372 votes and Roy with 354 votes. Swee received 264 votes and Wischow received 141 votes.
The St. James Fire Protection District Board of Directors had two seats open, with four candidates competing for six-year terms: Jeff Davis, Scott Marcee, John Money and Larry Rinehart.
The two candidates elected were Rinehart with 402 votes and Marcee with 272 votes. Davis received 166 votes and Money received 164 votes.
