St. James voters will head to the polls during the April 7 Municipal Election to determine leadership for the city and schools. Races for a Ward 2 alderman, three seats on the school board and two seats on the Fire Protection District will be decided.
The only opposed race for the city is between incumbent Ward 2 Alderman Mark Gray, who has served for six years, and Keith Livingstone. The term lasts two years.
Ward 1 Alderwoman Tyler Wagnon is running unopposed for reelection. Margaret Kirgan Roberts is running unopposed for a seat as a Ward 3 alderwoman. Incumbent Ward 4 Alderman Stephen Hutchcraft is running unopposed for reelection after being appointed to fill the vacant position. All are two-year terms.
Marcie Wilson is running unopposed for the one-year term in Ward 4.
St. James R-1 Board of Education has three seats up for election with five candidates vying for the spots. Expiring terms are currently held by Melanie Davis, Wes Gahr and Jon Rapp. Davis and Gahr have filed for reelection. Kendra Swee, Jessica Roy and Linda Wischow will also be candidates for the three-year term.
St. James Fire Protection District has two Board of Directors seats open. Four candidates filed for the six-year term: Jeff Davis, Scott Marcee, John Money and Larry Rinehart.
St. James Ambulance Board of Directors will not have a race, as only the incumbents filed to renew their three-year terms. One seat is for sub-district three and the other is for sub-district six, held by Tammy Yamnitz and Jennifer Rabenau respectively.
Registered voters in Wards 1, 2 and 3 will vote at Nelson Hart Community Hall. Those in Ward 4 and outside city limits will vote at the St. James Senior Center. Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
