Steelville High School’s golf team traveled to Jackson on May 11 to compete in the Class 2 District 1 Tournament at Bent Creek Golf Course.
Eighteen schools competed in the meet and the top two teams and the best 15 individual scoring golfers not on the top-two teams advanced to the Class 2 State Tournament. Nearly 100 golfers each played 18 holes throughout the busy afternoon of competition. St. Vincent and Festus claimed the top two spots as a team and Steelville finished in 12th place as a team. The Cardinals didn’t have an individual golfer finish in the top-21, effectively ending their season following the meet. St. Vincent golfers Samuel Koishor and Brecken Reiss each shot a 78 to tie for the first place individual score.
Seniors Flint Harmon, Nicholas Hoff and Wesley Keymann played their last holes as a Cardinal and had solid showings despite competing in a crowded field. Harmon was Steelville’s top performer, shooting a 101 to finish in 42nd. Sophomore Jarrett West had the Cardinal’s next best showing, shooting a 101 to take 49th.
Keymann shot a 110 to finish in 56th, junior Joe Brand shot a 119 to place 65th and Hoff shot a 135, taking 75th.
The Cardinals have a solid foundation in Brand and West to build upon for next season under the tutelage of head coach Bryan Ruediger and will hope that the rising eighth-grade class and other Steelville athletes will join them to compete in 2027.
