Steelville Middle School, High School honors its spring athletes

Steelville Middle School and Steelville High School honored its spring athletes with an awards night on May 26 at SHS.

Steelville Middle School’s volleyball and track teams were honored along with Steelville High School’s baseball, softball, track and golf teams. Steelville High School’s Activities and Athletic Director Ryan Weber also presented senior athlete awards to a pair of notable outgoing seniors.

SMS volleyball coaches Megan Hammonds and Kaite Hagerty presented the awards for the seventh- and eighth-grade volleyball teams. For the seventh-grade team, Lucy Harmon had the most kills, Maddi Settles won the award for most assists, Avery Brice was named best server, Brooklyn Kelley was awarded best defensive player, Elaina Turnbough was named most improved and Clara Garrison won the Coach’s Award.

For the eighth-grade team, Amyris Murphy had the most kills, Audrey Kreamalmyer had the most assists and was named best server, Miley Wright was awarded best defensive player, Jaylinn Warden was named most improved and McKenzie Hewkin won the Coach’s award.

The SMS track awards were given out by coaches Teresa Hickey and Paula Ransom for the boys’ and girls’ track teams. Wynter Yates and Andrew Jenson each won the awards for best in field events and best sprinter. Elaina Turnbough and Peyton Martin were named best long distance runners, Kaylynn Mattingly and Harlan Terry won most improved and Mary Edgar and Daniel Henry won the Coach’s Awards.

SHS track and field coaches Lydia Sexton, Ashley Bailey and Tanya Brown handed out team awards and gave All-District, All-Conference and All-State recognition to their athletes.

For the Steelville girls’ team, Emeri Perkins was named best sprinter and most improved, Adalei Perkins was awarded best distance runner and best in the field events and Jayla Schmidt and Elivia Pryor each won the Coach’s awards.  

Emeri Perkins was All-Conference in the 100 and 300 meter hurdles, the triple jump and as a member of Steelville’s 4x400 relay team and was an All-District selection in the 300 meter hurdles and the triple jump. 

Adalei Perkins was named All-Conference in the 1600 meter, 3200 meter, in the triple jump and was a part of the 4x400 relay team. 

Brooklyn Thomas was All-Conference in the 100 meter hurdles, the javelin throw and as a member of the 4x400 relay team. She was also named All-District in the javelin competition.

Alex Helms was named All-Conference in the 100 and 300 meter hurdles, in the long jump and as a part of the 4x400 relay team. 

Peyton Brooks was All-Conference in the 100 meter hurdles and the high jump and Elivia Pryor was All-Conference as a member of the 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams.

Willow Jaycox and Ila Pfeiffer were named All-Conference for their roles in the 4x200 relay teams and Pfeiffer was also an All-Conference selection as a member of the 4x200 relay team. 

Jayla Schmidt was a part of the All-Conference 4x100 and 4x200 teams and was also an All-Conference selection in the pole vault.

Vivian West was All-Conference in the 200 meters, 400 meters and as a member of the 4x400 relay team and Cami Mason was an All-Conference selection in the shot put. 

Steelville’s boys’ track team finished an illustrious season that saw its 4x400 team be named All-State along with a pair of individual All-State finishers. 

Hunter Starbeck was named best sprinter and most improved along with being named All-Conference, All-District in the individual 200m, 400, and as a member of the 4x400 and 4x800 teams. He was named All-State in the 400 meter dash and as a member of Steelville’s 4x400 relay team. Starbeck was Steelville’s top finisher in the state meet, earning second place in the 400 meters while setting a school record with a 49.24-second finish. 

Owen Rutledge was awarded best distance runner and was All-Conference in the 800m and as a member of the Cardinal’s 4x400 and 4x800 relay teams. He was an All-District selection in the 800m and 1600m individual races along with being a part of the pair of relay teams. Rutledge was an All-State selection for his role in the 4x400 relay team that finished fourth in the state. 

Max Harmon was named best in the field events. Harmon was an All-Conference in the shotput, discus and javelin events and as a member of Steelville’s 4x100 relay team and was also named All-District in the discus and shot put competitions. 

Will Bailey and Landon Rutledge won the Coach’s awards. Bailey was an All-Conference selection in the pole vault and javelin competitions.

Rutledge was All-Conference in the 110 and 300m hurdles and as a member of the 4x400 and 4x800 relay teams. He was All-District as a member of the pair of relay teams and was All-State in the individual 300m hurdles and as a part of the Cardinals’ 4x400 relay team. 

Alexander Martin was All-Conference in the high jump and as a part of the team’s 4x400 and 4x800 relay teams. He was All-District for his contributions to both relay teams and was All-State as a member of the 4x400 relay team. 

Darion Signaigo and Andy Riley were All-Conference for their roles in Steelville’s 4x100 relay teams and Aiden Greenwalt was All-Conference in the individual 200 meter dash, the long jump and as a member of the 4x100 relay team.

Aiden Retkowski was All-Conference in the shot put and discus events and Lucas Garms was All-Conference in the 1600 and 3200 meter races. 

Head coach Ryan Weber and assistant coach Jackson Case presented the awards for Steelville High School’s baseball team. 

Trentin Garrison won the Gold Glove award, Ripken Halbert was named best base runner and had the best batting average.

Jackson Woods won most valuable pitcher and was tied for the most runs batted in with Garrett Richter. Colin Orick was named most improved and Chace Grayson won the coach’s award. Halbert was also Steelville’s lone All-Conference and All-District selection after a superb freshman season.

Steelville golf coach Bryan Ruediger handed out awards to his golf team that finished in second place in the Gasconade Valley Conference. Flint Harmon was awarded lowest scorer, Nicholas Hoff was named most improved and Wesley Keymann won the Coach’s Award. Hoff was also an All-Conference selection. 

Lady Cardinal head softball coach Jessica Eichholz and assistant coach Cassidy Hill presented the awards to the SHS softball team.

Gracie Mae Boone won the best batting average, most runs batted in and Gold Glove awards. She was also a first-team All-District selection by coaches in the District. Kaylee Pitts was named best base runner, Nikki Jenson won most improved and Abigail Schlueter was given the Coach’s Award.

Activities and Athletic Director Ryan Weber concluded the ceremonies by awarding seniors Landon Rutledge and Elivia Pryor with the Senior Athlete Awards. Rutledge capped his SHS athletic career as a member of the cross-country, basketball and track teams while Pryor played volleyball and ran track during her last go around.
