The Steelville Police Department transferred one patrolman to a new position and is sponsoring a second person through the police academy.
The Steelville Police Department was unable to fill a now-vacant position before Sept. 22, following the resignation of a former patrolman. As a result, the city council approved an internal department transfer.
Joshua Woodall is expected to fill the role that was left vacant. Woodall will be compensated $23.07 an hour in his new position, which is a step seven on the payroll scale.
The department was also approved with a 4-0 vote to sponsor Brandon Schneider through the Law Enforcement Training Institute (LETI) in Columbia. Schneider is expected to go through the academy before taking on a patrolman position for the city. He will begin at $17.30, which is step one of the pay scale.
In addition to filling employee positions, the council approved a salary increase to step 11 for the police chief and city supervisor. Salaries go into effect following the April 2026 election, with the swearing-in of new elected officials. The police chief's salary was approved at $70,000 annually, beginning in April 2026.
The city supervisor's salary will increase to $70,154.24 annually.
