It happens, if not every year, pretty regularly. Winter comes, and just when we think we’ll get through it without too much rough weather, suddenly here comes the blizzard. It’s actually surprising, when you think of it, just how much snow a place can get in a matter of a few hours. And even though we didn’t get a much as many other areas, we still had enough to trap us in our houses for at least a while.
Now we’re looking at some warm, sunny days, and a chance for that snow cover to melt away. But one thing is for certain: It’s going to take a lot longer to get rid of all the snow than it took for us to get it in the first place.
This is the way sin works in our lives. I watch a lot of courtroom footage, and see it over and over. Someone makes a poor decision, to drive too fast or to drink too much or tell one tiny lie. The trouble can start small, but it mounts quickly as one poor decision leads to another, and you’re in trouble before you know it. And getting out of it is far more difficult than getting into it.
We can’t avoid all the trouble that we face in life. But we can avoid some through wisdom and forethought. Even the snow that dumps on us we can handle if we’re prepared for it. And the more aware we are of our own weakness, the better, in faith and in prayer, we can prepare.
We invite you to join us Sunday morning, at 9:30 a.m. for adult Sunday School and 10:30 a.m. for worship. We’re located on the corner of First and High Street in Steelville. For more information, check out our website at steelvillepresbyterian.org.
