STEELVILLE – Sullivan Fire Protection District assisted Steelville Fire at 4:02 p.m. on Jan. 10 to rescue a man who had reportedly fallen from a rock bluff while rock climbing.

At Cave Road and Highway E, the Sullivan Fire District was called to assist in the technical rescue of an unidentified man. They were able to locate the victim, and the combined fire districts were able to get him to the riverbank using specialized training and equipment, such as approximately 50 feet of rescue rope, which was used to lower him towards the waiting rescue boat.

The victim was seriously injured, and North Crawford County Ambulance and Steelville Ambulance were on scene to provide immediate life-saving measures.

Following the rescue and on-scene care, the victim was airlifted by Air Ambulance to a critical care facility for further treatment.
