STEELVILLE — Steelville High School’s boy’s and girl’s wrestling teams competed on Dec. 13 in the Rolla Tough as Nails Tournament. This was the first match of the season for the boy and second for the girls, who previously competed in the Nov. 25 Owensville Dutchgirl’s Tournament.
Brandon Alexander was the top performer on the boy’s side and went 3-1 in the 126-pound weight class to earn a second-place medal in his class. Jacoby Eaton went 1-2 in the 131-pound class and took third. Silas Evans went 1-3 at 175 and finished in fourth. Bentley Hicks went 0-4 in the 190 lb. class and took fifth. Aiden Retkowski went 1-2 in the heavyweight class to finish third.
Jaydon Sharp led the girl’s team with a 2-1 record and a second-place medal in the 105-pound division. Nikki Jenson went 0-2 to finish fourth at 115. Lydia Smelser took fifth in the 125-pound division with a 1-2 record. Stormee Yates saw the most action and wrestled in five matches. She went 2-3 to finish in fifth place in her weight class. Kyla Bennett lost both matches in the 235-pound classes and didn’t place.
Steelville’s boys team will compete on Dec. 20 in the Brentwood Tournament in its last matchup in the calendar year. They will then wrestle on Jan. 3 in the Fatima New Year’s Duals Tournament.
The Lady Cardinals will not compete again until Jan. 9, when they will travel to Park Hills to wrestle in the Lady Rebel Invitational.
