The Lady Cardinals wrestled on Jan. 30 in the Lady Dragon Classic and the Cardinals’ boys team competed on Jan. 30 in the 48th De Soto Bob Georger Classic.

Three Lady Cardinals competed in the Lady Dragon Classic. Jaydon Sharp wrestled in the 105-pound class and went 0-3 on the day. Despite the results, Sharp was competitive and lost by fall in all three matches. She took fourth place in her weight class and is now 7-10 on the season

Lydia Smelser had the best results of any Cardinal in De Soto. Smelser went 3-1 on the afternoon in the 120-pound class and took third place. Smelser won her first match by fall, lost by fall in her second bout, won by fall in her third match before dominating her final match with a win by fall. Smelser’s strong day brought her overall record over .500, and she now is 9-8 on the year.

Stormee Yates went 2-2 in the 140-pound class and took fifth place in her class. Yates lost her first match by fall before winning her second match by fall. Yates lost her third bout in a close match by fall before winning her last match by fall. She now boasts a solid 15-8 record on the season.

Jacoby Eaton and Brandon Alexander were the only members of Steelville’s boys’ wrestling teams to compete in the Bob Georgic Classic on Jan. 31. Neither Cardinal placed in the meet.

Eaton competed in the 126-pound class and lost his first match by fall before losing 17-1 by technical fall in his second bout.

Alexander lost by fall in his first match, but bounced back for a strong victory by fall in his second bout. He then lost his third bout by fall. Eaton is now 6-16 on the season and Alexander is 4-3.
