STJ golfers fourth at Salem Invitational

Behind a top-10 individual finish by junior Owen Spurgeon, the St. James High boys’ golf team placed fourth in the Salem Invitational, held Thursday, April 9 at Spring Creek Golf Course.

Mountain View Liberty won the eight-school team championship with 341 while Sullivan placed second with 357, host Salem third with 363 and St. James fourth with 375.

Meet medalist was Salem sophomore Aiden Summers, who carded even-par 72 on his home course, while Liberty’s Brady Altermatt was runner-up with 77.

Spurgeon tied for seventh overall with 89.

This week the Tigers were scheduled to play in a Four Rivers Conference match at St. Clair Tuesday and host the St. James Tournament Wednesday at the St. James Golf Course.

The St. James golfers finished second in a FRC Tri-Meet at the Sullivan Golf Course Monday, March 6.

Host Sullivan won with 176 while St. James shot 187 and Owensville 218.

Sullivan’s Chase Black was meet medalist with 4-over-par 40.

For the Tigers, Spurgeon shot 45, Weinbaum 46, E. Davis 47, Mabrey 49 and N. Davis 49.
In the junior varsity event, Karsten Driskell carded 49 for the Tigers while Easton Huffman shot 52, Broc Gibson 55 and Dom Giacolone 63.
