Tiger baseball falls in district semis

The season ended for the fifth-seeded St. James High baseball squad in the Missouri Class 4 District 3 Tournament semifinals, as the Tigers lost to top-seeded Potosi 7-1 Saturday, May 16 in St. Clair.
St. James opened district play by beating fourth-seeded Salem 7-5 in the first round Thursday, May 14.

Earlier in the week STJ played at Bourbon and won 10-1 Tuesday, May 12.
St. James ends its season with a 4-18 record.

Potosi and third-seeded Sullivan moved on to the district title game, slated for Wednesday, May 20.
District 3 Semifinals May 16 - Potosi 7, STJ 1: The underdog Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning before the Potosi Trojans tied it up in the bottom of the second. The Trojans then took control with six runs in the bottom of the third, which ended the game’s scoring.
St. James was outhit 8-3.

Senior JV Meurer had a double and single while junior Isaac Pearson added a hit for the Tigers.
Senior Trevor Mitchell worked two innings on the mound before Pearson came on in relief.
District 3 First Round May 14 - STJ 7, Salem 5: In a battle of Tigers, St. James jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning. STJ made it 7-0 with solo runs in each of the third, fourth, fifth and six innings.

But Salem made a late rally, plating two runs in the bottom of the sixth and making it a two-run game with three more in the seventh before Mitchell got the final out for the save.
St. James outhit Salem 7-6.

Senor Cooper Schacht had a double, single and run for St. James while sophomore Aiden Cruz had two hits and three stolen bases; Mitchell a hit and three RBI; junior Hunter Freeman a hit and three runs; Meurer a hit, two runs and two stolen bases, and sophomore Patrick Lonning and senior Max Wilson an RBI each.

Meurer was the winning pitcher, allowing two earned runs on five hits, two walks while fanning 14 over six innings.
