The St. James High baseball squad went 1-2 in games last week.
The Tigers shut out Mountain Grove on the road 4-0 Tuesday, March 24, lost to Crocker 11-0 Thursday, March 26 at Nelson Hart Park and fell at South Callaway 10-3 Saturday, March 28.
That left St. James with a 1-3 record.
This week the Tigers were to play at Licking Monday, host Owensville Wednesday at Nelson Hart Park (4:30 p.m. start) and at Cuba Thursday (4:30 p.m.).
March 28 - South Callaway 10, STJ 3: The South Callaway Bulldogs scored in each of the first six innings, getting two runs in the bottom of the first inning, one each in the second, third and fourth frames; four in the fifth and one in the sixth. St. James got two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth.
South Callaway outhit the Tigers 6-4 and took advantage of 11 walks.
Junior Hunter Freeman had a double, single and scored a run for St. James while senior JV Meurer hit an RBI triple and scored; and sophomore Aiden Cruz had a hit and scored a run. Cruz also stole three bases while sophomore Pat Lonning swiped one.
Junior Isaac Pearson started on the mound and worked 2 2/3 innings, allowing three earned runs on two hits and three walks. Cruz followed with 2 1/3 innings, giving up five earned runs on four hits and eight walks while fanning three. Freshman Jaden Otto finished the last, hitless inning.
South Callaway won the junior varsity game 5-0.
March 26 - Crocker 11, STJ 0: The Crocker Lions scored three runs in the top of the first inning and was in control the rest of the way. Crocker got three more runs in the third, one in each of the fourth and sixth frames and three in the seventh.
Crocker outhit St. James 9-2 and took advantage of four Tiger errors. Only five of the 11 Lion runs were earned.
Senior Cooper Schacht and senior Eugene Lefebvre each had a hit for St. James.
Meurer started and pitched six innings for STJ, allowing three earned runs, seven hits and two walks while striking out seven. Cruz threw the final inning, giving up two runs on two hits and no walks.
Crocker won the junior varsity game 15-0.
March 24 - STJ 4, Mtn. Grove 0: Senior Trevor Mitchell sparkled on the mound for the Tigers, throwing a seven-inning, two-hit shutout for the Tigers. He walked just two and struck out eight in his gem.
St. James took the lead for good with a run in the top of the first inning and added a run in the third and two more in the fifth.
St. James outhit the Mountain Grove Panthers 5-2.
Meurer tripled and scored two runs for STJ while Freeman had two hits and scored a run; Mitchell had a hit and RBI; Cruz a hit, and Schacht scored a run.
Mountain Grove won the JV game 9-1.
