The host St. James High School boys’ cross country team paced the field Tuesday, Sept. 30, winning the annual St. James Invitational, held at Maramec Spring Park.
The Tigers won the boys’ team championship with 49 points while New Haven was runner-up with 67 and Pacific third with 74.
St. James had three of the four top individual finishers on the 5,000-meter course.
Pacific’s Benjamin Smith was the boys’ medalist with a time of 16:58.07. Following him was a trio of STJ Tigers, as Ashton Moreland finished second at 17:06.58, Kylar Hodge third at 17:24.73 and Johnny Perkins fourth at 17:26.12.
In the girls’ race Pacific won the team crown with 21 points while St. Francis Borgia was second with 59. Sullivan’s Vanessa Nolie was the individual girls’ champion at 20:40.49 while Salem’s Zoey Elliott was runner-up with 21:27.49. St. James’ lone runner in the field was Adalyne Hash, who placed 31st at 26:33.42.
In the 1.6-mile middle school meet St. James’ Tara Murphy was the individual medalist in the girls’ race, finishing with a time of 10:15.28.
The Tigers were scheduled to run again Tuesday, Oct. 7 at the Hermann Invitational.
