In the upcoming April 7 election, Steelville voters will determine new leadership for both the city and schools as they head to the polls to select a mayor, Ward 1 alderman and school board members.
Incumbent Mayor Terry Beckham’s term is expiring and he is challenged for reelection by Duane DeRennaux. Incumbent Alderman Ward 1 Curtis Crouch is vying for reelection against Harry H. Martin. Both seats are two-year terms.
Incumbent Alderwoman Ward 2 Lula Patterson and City Marshal Mike Sherman are each running unopposed for reelection for the two- and four-year terms, respectively.
Three seats are open for the Steelville R-3 School District Board of Education, and four have filed to run for the three-year term. Expiring terms are currently held by Brad Brooks and Rachel Martin, who are running for reelection. Kyle Grayson and Michael Retkowski have also filed as candidates.
The Steelville Star-Crawford Mirror invited all candidates running opposed to submit a 250-word profile telling readers about their background and goals for the position. This opportunity was offered free of charge to assist voters in making decisions.
Profiles were only edited for grammar or to fit length requirements. Alderman Ward 1 candidate Harry H. Martin did not respond to requests to participate.
Alderman and school board candidate information will appear in next week's edition.
