The St. James High boys’ golf team capped a busy week by playing Cuba in a dual meet Friday, March 3 at the St. James Golf Club.

Tiger golfers cap busy week with dual-meet win

The St. James High boys’ golf team capped a busy week by playing Cuba in a dual meet Friday, March 3 at the St. James Golf Club.

Cuba had just three players, so it didn’t have a team score.

Tying for medalist honors were St. James’ Skylar Mabrey and Owen Spurgeon, each with 7-over-par 43. Also for the Tigers, Daxton Weinbaum shot 45 and Eli Davis and Nobel Davis each shot 49.

For Cuba, Cole Kelemen shot 48, Kye Williams 58 and Jodie Kelemen 64.

For the St. James junior varsity team Karsten Driskell fired 54, Broc Gibson 55 and Isaac Siders 57 while Dom Giacolone and Easton Huffman 58 each.

A Tiger C team also competed, with Thad Rivers shooting 56, Michel Wilson 59, Paxton Lesesne 66 and Payton Brown 71.

This week the Tiger golfers were slated to compete in a tri-meet with Sullivan and Owensville at Sullivan Monday then play in the Salem Tournament Thursday at Spring Creek Golf Course.

April 2 - In a tri-meet Thursday, April 2 at the Sullivan Golf Course, the Tigers placed second. Host Sullivan won with 179 while St. James shot 187 and Pacific 201.

Meet medalist was Sullivan’s Carsen Dudley with 3-over-par 39. Eli Davis was runner-up for the Tigers with 43. Also for St. James, Mabrey shot 46, Spurgeon 47, N. Davis 51 and Driskell 65.
For the Tiger JV squad, Huffman carded 57, Giacolone 58, Gibson 60 and Siders 61.

March 31 - St. James topped Hermann in a dual meet 184-213 Tuesday, March 31 at the St. James Golf Club.

Hermann’s EJ Lindahl was meet medalist, carding 5-over-par 41. Weinbaum was medalist runner-up, one stroke back at 42.

Also for STJ, Spurgeon shot 46, E. Davis and N. Davis 48 each and Driskell 50.

Hermann did not field a JV team.

For the Tiger JV squad, Mabrey shot 45, Giacolone 53, Huffman 54, Gibson 55 and Lesesne 64. For the St. James C team, Siders carded 58, Wilson, Peyton Recker and Rivers 66 each and Brown 70.

March 30 - Union Tournament: The short-handed Tigers finished ninth in the 10-school Union Tournament, held Monday, March 30. Sullivan won the tourney with a team score of 373 while Pacific was second with 388 and St. Clair third with 390. St. James shot 444.

Nobel Davis had a top-10 individual finish, shooting 93 to take seventh place.
