STARCO hosting kid-centric art event on May 9

Steelville Arts Council (STARCO) is bringing ARTrageous back to Steelville on Saturday, May 9 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for its fourth year. The event is designed to be family friendly and is free and fun for all ages.

Held on the grounds of Heartland Arts, located at 303 W. Main Street, the annual community event will have over 10 tents set up around the property with local artists on site to help kids create art projects to take home.

Some of these projects include rock painting, sock puppets, air dry clay, pipe cleaner critters, watercolor characters, recycled crafts and more.

There will also be plenty of games to play and a storytime for kids in Adam’s Music Garden.

Heartland Arts will be open for visitors to shop at, offering handcrafted gifts and unique pieces of all mediums created by local artisans, many of whom will have their booths set up for kids at the event.

Live music will be played by Bliss Hippy, a folk duo from Rolla, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and there will be two food trucks on site: That Flipin Burger Joint and The Drifting Diner. Dessert tents will offer sweets from Ronni’s Cookie Dough Diner and Treble Treats.

ARTrageous was first created by the late Barb Bryan, a founding STARCO member who wanted to help get younger kids involved and interested in art. It has since brought the community together annually in May for the past three years.
