A historic regular season for Bourbon High School’s softball team is concluding and postseason play is awaiting for the fighting Lady Warhawks. After their scheduled home game on April 28th versus Licking was rained out, the blue and white won both games of a doubleheader in Potosi on April 30 and are now 15-4 on the season.
Bourbon’s 15 wins are the most in the history of Lady Warhawks softball, topping last year’s 13 win season. The Lady Hawks have multiple chances to add to that number, starting with their last regular season game of the season on May 4 against Houston.
The Lady Warhawks will then compete in the Class 2 District 3 Tournament in Potosi, beginning on May 7. Bourbon is the number three seed and will take on six-seeded Grandview (Hillsboro) in the first round. If they win, the Lady Hawks will play the winner of two-seeded Fatima and seven-seeded Kingston on May 11 in the semifinals. Houston is the number one seed of the tournament, and will take on eight-seeded Steelville in the first round.
Bourbon beats Potosi in game one behind Gobin’s pitching gem
The first game between Bourbon and the Potosi Lady Trojans was a fast paced, well pitched game from Lady Warhawk senior Annalise Gobin. Gobin dominated throughout seven innings of work, allowing just one run while scattering just four hits and striking out 12 Potosi hitters.
Bourbon led 2-1 for the majority of the game before adding four runs in the top of the seventh inning to pull away with a 6-1 victory. Lauryn Hercules tripled, singled, drove in a run and scored twice. Ella Biles singled twice and stole a base and Kinzey Waldron added a pair of base hits. Gobin singled, stole two bases, drove in two runs and scored once.
Lady Warhawks win slugfest in game two
Game two of the doubleheader was the opposite type of game than game one. A long, drawn out, high-scoring game ensued and ended as the sun was going down.
Potosi plated three runs in each of the first three innings and looked like they would potentially end the game early due to the run rule. But the resilient Lady Warhawks added one run in the fourth, two in the fifth, before exploding for 11 runs in the sixth inning.
Biles started on the mound, and settled down as the game wore on before Savanna Vance came on in relief for the final two innings. Potosi didn’t go down without a fight, adding two runs in each of the final two innings. But Vance bore down and got the final out with one run to spare, as Bourbon was able to end the long afternoon of softball with a thrilling 14-13 victory.
Every Lady Warhawk collected at least one hit and Bourbon finished with 15 hits throughout the slugfest.
Hercules tripled three times, drove in four runs and scored once out of the leadoff spot. Hailie Kahmke doubled twice, drove in two runs, stole a base and scored twice. Bree Bouse added three base hits, three runs batted in, one stolen base and two runs scored out of the nine-hole in the batting order.
Biles singled and drove in three runs and Vance singled twice and scored twice. Gobin reached base three times, scored twice and stole three bases. Waldron singled, scored once and drove in a run and Maddie Blanton singled, walked and scored twice. Arianna Barnhouse reached base twice, scored once and drove in a run to round out Bourbon’s offensive outburst.
Potosi sophomore Eve Litton and freshman Kaydence Eden each collected three base hits and drove in multiple runs to lead the Lady Trojans.
