Two Bourbon residents were arrested on various charges, with one arrest occurring on Aug. 30 and another the following day.
Daniel R. Whatley, 45, was arrested on Aug. 30 and charged with 10 counts of possession of child sexual abuse material a class B felony, two class C felonies alleging delivery of a controlled substance except 35 grams or less of marijuana or a synthetic cannabinoid, and unlawful possession of a firearm, as well as a class D misdemeanor for unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
Jessica L. Whatley, 46, was arrested on Aug. 31 on allegations of 10 counts of possession of child sexual abuse material a class B felony, class C felony charge for delivering a controlled substance except 35 grams or less of marijuana or a synthetic cannabinoid and a class D unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia felony charge.
Detective Sergeant Shawn Hedge with the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office wrote the probable cause statement for both arrests.
On Aug. 30, Hedge was notified by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force of a report of concern and allegations against Daniel and Jessica Whatley. The complaint included claims that they possessed child sexual abuse material, alleged the sexual exploitation of a minor and statutory rape.
Hedge interviewed the anonymous witness, who presented credible and detailed information pertaining to the allegations.
Hedge obtained a search warrant for the Whatleys’ residence and electronics. Law enforcement officers located and seized multiple electronic storage devices, laptops, a desktop and cell phones, which will be searched by the South-Central Missouri Computer Crimes Task Force forensic lab.
Officers also seized controlled substances, including methamphetamine, psychedelic mushrooms and prescription Alprazolam and Adderall. Located near the methamphetamine was a large quantity of small clear plastic bags, which are commonly used for the storage, transfer-transport and sale of the drug, as well as a digital scale. There were approximately 77.3 grams of methamphetamine. Located near the drugs were devices to ingest it, including glass smoking devices and an ink pen “tooter straw.”
Law enforcement also found a concealed firearm while searching for evidence of possessing child sexual abuse material and drug paraphernalia.
During the investigation, Daniel Whatley’s criminal history was reviewed. He was arrested and found guilty or guilty under suspended imposition of sentence (SIS) for various charges, including driving while intoxicated, felony stealing, forgery, third-degree assault and resisting/interfering with an arrest.
Both are being held at the Crawford County Jail with no bond allowed.
They are scheduled to appear at 11 a.m. on Sept. 9 before Judge Patrick Horsefield’s 42nd Circuit Court.
