Bourbon High School’s volleyball team has hit a tough stretch after dropping its fifth straight match. The Lady Warhawks are 3-5-1 on the year after falling to local foes, Viburnum and Cuba. Bourbon had a good chance to bounce back Sept. 10 versus St. James, but the match was postponed due to a shortage of officials in the area.
Because of the postponed match, the Lady Warhawks had a week off before its next match up Sept. 15 in Kingston. Bourbon will host Crystal City Sept. 17 and compete in the Cuba Varsity Tournament Sept. 19, with its first match starting at 8:45 a.m. versus Licking.
The Lady Warhawks will then play in Grandview (Hillsboro) Sept. 22, host Steelville Sept. 24 and compete in the Principia Round Robin Sept. 26 in St. Louis. Bourbon’s junior varsity team will also play Sept. 26 in Cuba’s junior varsity tournament.
Sept. 4 vs. Viburnum
The Lady Warhawks spent their Friday heading into Labor Day Weekend competing in a Gasconade Valley Conference (GVC) match in Viburnum against the Lady Blue Jays. The competitive Lady Blue Jays asserted themselves early, winning the first set 25-22 and the second set 25-20. Bourbon bounced back in the third set with a 25-22 win to prolong the match but Viburnum quickly ended any hopes of a Lady Warhawk comeback.
The Lady Blue Jays won the fourth set 25-19 to give Bourbon itsfourth loss of the season. The win was Viburnum’s first of the season after dropping matches to Lesterville, Cuba, Kingston and Bunker to start the year. Statistics weren’t provided for this match. Bourbon’s junior varsity team defeated Viburnum in straight sets to earn the victory.
Sept. 8 vs Cuba
Bourbon returned home four days later to host its Route 66 neighbor and GVC opponent, the Cuba Lady Wildcats. The Lady Cats were in control throughout, taking the first set 25-10 and the second set 25-15. The Lady Warhawks played their best in the third set, but it wasn’t enough, as Bourbon fell 25-21 for its fifth straight loss. Cuba moved to 5-2 on the season while the Lady Hawks fell to 3-5-1 on the year.
Bourbon’s junior varsity team dropped each set 25-16 in the first match up of the evening between the Lady Warhawks and Lady Wildcats. The victory was the Cuba JV team’s sixth straight win. Statistics weren’t provided for the Lady Warhawks for either match.
