The Crawford County Library District is opening its doors to writers from around the region on Nov. 28 for a Local Author Fair during Small Business Saturday.
The event will take place from 10 a.m. until 12.p.m. at the Recklein Memorial Library in Cuba. The library will provide space and tables free of charge for writers to set up and sell their books, while discussing their works with local readers.
“Essentially, it will be a fair where people can walk from table to table to browse their books and talk to authors,” said Genevieve Alexander, program manager at the Crawford County Library District, who added that they expect the event to host more than a dozen authors.
The event is being done in conjunction with Small Business Saturday, a national event founded by American Express in 2010, but which has been supported by the U.S. Small Business Administration since 2011. The yearly event takes place the Saturday following Thanksgiving and encourages shoppers to support America’s 36 million small businesses by spending money locally.
Alexander said that the Local Author Fair is a chance for readers in Crawford County to be neighborly to local authors while getting some Christmas shopping out of the way, adding that visitors will find books that can appeal to anyone.
“There are all sorts of authors coming. We have a few children’s authors, a few teens, and of course adults as well. There is definitely something for everyone,” Alexander said. “I’m very excited and can’t wait to see all the great things that these authors are bringing, and it’s a great way to support local.”
