Urgent appeal for December Commodity Day support

Posted

Dear Community,

We’ve received an important update from the Food Bank regarding SNAP benefits—and unfortunately, our regular allocation has already been reduced by 40% earlier this year. This has placed a significant strain on our ability to meet the growing needs of local families.

Thanks to the generosity of Hutcheson Ford’s $1,500 donation and the Board of Directors’ approval to spend an additional $2,000 monthly, we’ve been able to order $3,500 worth of holiday-themed food for November’s Commodity Day from Country Mart in St. James. Items include instant mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, gravy, dressing, sweet potatoes/yams, and more.

While this will carry us through November, we are deeply concerned about December’s Commodity Day. The hold on SNAP benefits and the rising number of households in need make it clear: we need your help.

Next time you’re shopping, please consider picking up a few extra canned goods to donate. If you’d prefer to make a monetary contribution, we’ll gladly do the shopping for you. Feel free to contact us at 573-265-2047.

The following items are suggested: Vienna sausage, vegetable soup, mushroom soup, boxes of pudding mix, frosting, ravioli, canned corn, canned potatoes, canned pears, canned tuna, syrup, jelly, chicken noodle soup, tomato soup, boxes of Jello mix, cake mixes, Spaghetti-Os, canned green beans, canned tomatoes, canned peaches, mac & cheese, pancake mix, peanut butter and spam.  Drop off location is 113 W. Eldon St. in St. James.

Your kindness and support mean the world to us—and to the families we serve. Thank you for standing with us during this challenging time.

Warmly,

Nancy Montgomery
