The St. James High School softball squad had no shot at success in its season-opener Thursday, Aug. 27.

Schwartze, a junior right-hander, was simply dominating in the pitching circle for the Vienna Lady Eagles, firing a no-hitter during a 10-0 victory at Vienna City Park.
Schwartze was a first-inning walk away from tossing a perfect game. She struck out 12 Lady Tigers in a game that was stopped in the fifth inning by the run-rule.
Vienna took advantage of early wildness by St. James hurler Lela Teague, scoring six runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Teague shut Vienna out over the next two innings, backed by some strong infield defense, before the Lady Eagles struck again for four runs in the fourth frame. Teague allowed just four hits but walked seven and the Lady Tigers committed three errors.
St. James will attempt to regroup this week by playing at South Callaway Thursday, starting at 5 p.m.
