Virginia “Eileen” Gibson of St. James, Missouri was born on Sept. 13, 1941 in Freeburg, Missouri to Wade and Mollie (Britton) Watson and passed away March 30, 2026 at the age of 84 years.
She
Eileen married Herman “Tuck” Gibson on July 25, 1963.
She had a deep love for sewing, especially quilting. Eileen made quilts for each of her children and grandchildren.
She and Tuck spent many peaceful hours sitting on their porch watching hummingbirds each spring. Their feeders attracted so many birds that they joked about buying sugar in large quantities from different stores so no one would think they were making moonshine.
She had a passion for gardening, growing both flowers and vegetables. She spent hours canning and preserving the harvest so her family could enjoy it throughout the winter months.
She worked for several years at the local clothing factory, where she advanced to the position of supervisor before the factory closed.
She was baptized at the Meramec River.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Frank Gibson; and siblings.
She is survived by her sons, Jesse Gibson and wife Stacy of St. James, Missouri and James Mason Gibson Carey and wife Sandy of St. Clair Shores, Michigan; grandchildren, Ethan Gibson, Ashley Carey, Amanda Carey (Jason), Alex Carey, Tyler Murphy, Dyllan (Kylie) Gibson and Garrett (Ashlyn) Gibson; great grandchildren, Grayson, Maisie, Evalyn and a new great granddaughter expected in July; siblings; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held from 1-2 p.m. on Monday, April 6, 2026 at the St. James Chapel of the James & Gahr Mortuary in St. James, Missouri.
Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Monday, April 6, 2026 at the St. James Chapel of the James & Gahr Mortuary in St. James, Missouri with Pastor Craig Rippy officiating.
Interment followed at the St. James Cemetery in St. James, Missouri.
