After picking up their first win of the year on April 14 against Steelville, Bourbon High School’s baseball team fell on April 20 and 21 to Bismarck and Dixon. The Warhawks were scheduled to host Crystal City on April 24, but a downpour in the area left standing water on the field, canceling the event.
Bourbon was 1-7 for the year, with seven games left in the regular season before the Class 3 District 8 Tournament began on April 14 in Belle.
The Warhawks were scheduled to host Cuba on April 27 and will welcome Hermann into town on April 29, which also coincides with Senior Day. Bourbon’s seniors and their families will be honored before the first pitch. The blue and white will then play on April 30 in Valley before competing again at home on May 4 against Grandview (Hillsboro). All of Bourbon’s games are scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m., barring any rain delays.
Warhawks fall in road game to Bismarck
After finally playing their home opener on April 14 and earning their first win of the season, Bourbon returned to the road six days later to take on the Bismarck Indians.
The Warhawks were repeatedly baffled by the Indians pitching and were held to just a pair of base hits and one run, before falling 10-1 in seven innings.
Sophomores Dawson King and Emmett Jones collected Bourbon’s only hits of the game and King’s base knock drove in Jones for the Warhawk’s lone run.
Ian Mueller, Anson Hormann, Garrett Wallis, King and Jones combined to pitch six innings in the loss. Mueller and Hormann each hurled 30 pitches, King threw 29, Jones 26, and Wallis tossed 21 to round out the Warhawk’s rotation.
Dixon’s offense powers Bulldogs to win over Bourbon
The Warhawks returned to the road the following night to take on the Dixon Bulldogs. The Bulldog’s bats took over early and continued for four innings as Dixon pulled away with a 14-4 win in five innings.
Mueller, Hormann and Wallis returned to the mound and combined to pitch four innings on 108 total pitches.
Jones led off and reached base twice as did Bourbon’s number three hitter, Hormann. Mueller drove in a run, Tariq Moore singled and scored and Chase Bouse walked and scored to complete Bourbon’s offensive output.
