Bourbon High School’s boys’ basketball team had over a week off after its Jan. 23 game versus Liberty Christian was cancelled due to the inclement weather.
The Warhawks returned to the court on Jan. 30 and lost to Houston at home, which is detailed below. Bourbon then hosted Rolla Sr. High Home School on Feb. 2 before welcoming a strong Belle Tigers team into town on Feb. 3, which will be detailed in next week’s edition. The Warhawks will host St. Paul Lutheran on Feb. 6 for its homecoming game. The homecoming coronation will take place in between Bourbon’s junior varsity and varsity games. The junior varsity game is scheduled to tip off at 5:30 and coronation is loosely scheduled to take place at 6:50.
The Warhawks will then host Crystal City on Jan. 9 for Pink Out Night, which will raise money for a local resident’s battle with cancer. Bourbon’s originally scheduled game on Feb. 6 in Steelville was postponed to Feb. 13. The Warhawks’ junior varsity team will play two quarters and the varsity game will follow.
Jan. 30 vs. Houston
The Houston Tigers scored the first 11 points of the game and never trailed against the Warhawks. Bourbon was without starting point guard Andre Nixon, and the Warhawks were plagued by turnovers without their lead ballhandler. Houston consistently turned defense to offense and led 21-4 after the first quarter and went into halftime up 36-12. The Tigers erupted for 25 points in the third frame, and headed into the final period up 61-21. Bourbon posted its only double-figure scoring quarter in the final frame, but their deficit was too much to overcome and Houston coasted to the finish line with a 72-31.
Owen Miller has solidified himself at the Warhawks’ leading scorer, and netted a team-high 17 points. Dawson King added six, Lucas Kelley and Tariq Moore added three and Bryar Stricklan scored two for Bourbon. Senior Daniel Riley scored a game-high 27 points to lead Houston.
