Warhawks fall to Kingston

Posted

Good feelings the Bourbon Warhawks felt coming off their first win of the season recently against Viburnum quickly evaporated Jan, 20 against a solid Kingston Cougars team.

Kingston led from tip off until the final buzzer.

Kingston’s offense was operating from a high level from the start and netted 24 points in the opening frame and 21 in the second to take a 45-15 lead into halftime. The Cougars poured in another 20 points in the third quarter before emptying their bench for the final frame. Kingston’s second-and third-stringers focused on ball control over scoring and cruised to the buzzer with a 67-25 victory over the Warhawks.

Bourbon junior Owen Miller has cemented himself as the Warhawks’ leading scorer and netted 10 points on the evening. Miller’s right-hand man, Dawson King, drained a three-pointer and a pair of baskets near the rim to finish with seven points. Joseph Woods and Andre Nixon scored three points apiece and Garrett Wallis and Tariq Moore each knocked down a free throw to finish with one point.

Kingston senior Brady Thompson erupted for 39 points on 19 baskets, as he single-handedly outscored all of the Warhawks on field goals predominantly near the rim. Bourbon’s junior varsity team defeated Kingston 37-24 in a half-game in the first matchup on the evening between the Warhawks and Cougars.

Bourbon’s game against Liberty Christian Sr. on Jan. 23 was canceled along with all other after school activities due to extreme winter conditions. The Warhawks will have over a week off before hosting Houston on Jan. 30 for homecoming night and Belle on Feb. 3.
