Dec. 27 vs. Valley Park
The Warhawks ran into a well oiled machine of a Valley Park team. Valley Park used full-court pressure defense on Bourbon guards Andre Nixon and Dawson King from tip-off that forced numerous turnovers and helped Valley Park get out to a 23-5 lead after the first quarter. Bourbon had its best offensive quarter in the second frame, scoring 17 points, but the Warhawks couldn’t contain Valley Park’s balanced attack which scored 21 in the quarter and took a 44-22 lead heading into halftime.
Valley Park kept their feet on the gas in the third quarter and erupted to score 30 points while giving up just six Warhawk points to blow the game open and take a 74-28 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Valley Park head coach Steve Jarvis then took his starters out, but the damage had been done. Bourbon outscored Valley Park 9-7 in the fourth quarter, but Valley Park still walked away with a commanding 81-37 victory.
Nixon, who looked overwhelmed in the first quarter, settled in as the game went on and finished with a team-high 12 points. Owen Miller scored nine points on a three-pointer and a trio of shots from inside the paint. Dawson King scored six on a pair of treys and Tariq Moore also scored six on three baskets near the rim. Garrett Willis knocked down a trio of free throws to finish with three and Joseph Woods made one from the charity stripe.
Valley Park had four players score in double figures led by senior guard Tim Coleman, who scored 20 points and picked up numerous steals using tenacious pressure defense. Michael Collins added 18 points, Myles St. Clair scored 11 and Blake Whitney chipped in 10 for Valley Park.
