Bourbon High School’s track and field team competed on April 23 in the Sullivan 9/10 invitational. The Warhawks batted it out with athletes from Owensville, Pacific, St. Clair, St. Francis Borgia, Sullivan, Union and Washington high schools.
The Lady Warhawks had numerous standout showings throughout the afternoon. Sophomore Hayden Terry starred in the field events, earning third place in the shot put event and fifth place in the javelin throw. Terry heaved the shot put 8.2 meters and tossed the javelin 18.8 meters.
Fellow sophomore Reese Bell earned a pair of top-five finishes in the 300 meter hurdles and in the triple jump. Bell ran the 300 meter hurdles in 57.81 seconds to take fifth place and leapt 8.3 meters to earn fourth place in the triple jump.
Bourbon softball players Savanna Vance and Bree Bouse took a break from the diamond to show off their speed at the meet. Vance ran the 100 meter dash in 14.35 seconds to take ninth place and Bouse ran the 200 meter dash in 31.63 seconds to finish in 10th.
Jaelynne Rohrer competed in the 100 meter hurdles and in the long jump event. Rohrer ran the 110 meter hurdles in 22 seconds flat to take 10th place and leapt 3.52 meters to finish in 14th.
Freshman Drawe Froning was one of Bourbon’s top finishers amongst its boys. Froning took ninth place in the 1600 meter race after completing it in 5:37.49.
Cain Brenk and Kaden Badger ran the 100 meter dash, earning 12th and 13th place, respectively. Brenk ran it in 12.59 seconds and Badger finished right behind him in 12.60 seconds.
Logan Bell and Daniel Wager competed in the 200 meter dash, taking 17th and 18th with 28.70 and 28.82 second finishes, respectively.
Logan Bell took eighth place in the triple jump after leaping 9.89 meters.
Dustin Brown, Jonathan Poole and Presley Hilsey competed in the discus competition. Brown tossed it 24.59 meters to earn 10th, Poole threw it 18.06 meters to take 16th and Hilsey heaved it 14.78 meters to finish in 18th.
Brown and Hilsey also participated in the shot put event, taking 11th and 17th with 8.78 and 5.69 meter heaves, respectively.
Bourbon returned to Sullivan on April 27 to compete in the Sullivan Varsity Invitational. The Warhawks will compete in the St. James Invitational on April 30 before traveling to Cuba on May 2 to partake in the GVC Conference meet, where field events are scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m.
