The Bourbon High School baseball team played three games in four days on Sept. 29, Sept. 30 and Oct. 2 against Kingston, Steelville and Richland, respectively.
The Warhawks traveled to Kingston on Sept. 29 and handled the Cougars 13-1 in six innings. Anson Hormann pitched a complete game for Bourbon, striking out 10 Cougars in a dominant performance. Hormann and Dawson King each reached base four times to lead the Warhawk’s offensive attack.
Bourbon then traveled to Steelville on Sept. 30 to take on the Cardinals. After two scoreless innings, the Warhawks tallied two in the second inning on a run-scoring double from Chase Perschbacher and a ground out from Emmett Jones. Steelville then tied the game in the bottom of the third, and the score remained deadlocked at two until the sixth inning.
With two outs in the sixth, Bryar Stricklan laced a double down the left field line to give Bourbon the lead heading into the seventh and final inning. Steelville was able to mount a two-out rally against starting pitcher Ian Muller and walk off with a victory over the Warhawks. Mueller gave a heroic effort, striking out 14 Cardinals in six and two-thirds innings. Anson Hormann and Dawson King each collected two hits for the Warhawks.
Bourbon returned home for its final home game of the fall on Sept. 2 to take on Richland. The Warhawks were shut down by Richland’s pitching and lost 13-0 in five innings. Dawson King picked up the only hit for Bourbon.
The Warhawks will play their last games of the fall season on Sept. 9 and Sept. 10 in the Stoutland Fall Classic against Richland, Plato and Stoutland.
